which 3 bikes?

Mark's O shit thread got me thinking...which 3 would you pick?
I say 3 because you have to change oil, brake fluid and buy batteries and 3 is enough.

mine would be a Goldwing on the big cushy turk side...no ABS thank you.

the Bonneville does all the mid stuff I need the way I like it

and a Big Ruckus would do me fine for chasing parts or running the fuzz thru the woods.


OK...maybe a Royal Enfield in trials trim for the masochist in me.

I think I just came up with a good combination:

Fun bike -- personality, cool factor, customizability, pride, the one that's my baby: Bonneville cafe racer

Dirt and shitty-weather riding: Honda XR650L

Commuting/touring: V-Strom 650

The Bonneville and V-Strom are both sporty enough to be shitloads of fun in the twisties, and for that matter, the XR is a blast in the twisties too. That thing can lean! There are a number of bikes I'd like to build if I had plenty of funds and a large heated garage, but I don't so they'll have to wait. But in general, these three categories pretty much have things covered for me.

when Triumph first came back alive in the mid 90's I went to the dealer and asked to try the new 3 cylinders...I had an 81 GS750EX at the time for 15 years and spanked it regularly...they let me ride a Thunderbird...a cartoon of a design exercise and I was impressed with the zip...but saw one of the first Tigers with the skid plate and heavy on the dirt accent and thought for years that was the bike for me...I bought a new 02 BMW RT by mistake a few years later...tested another Tiger in 05-ish and was tempted again, but never pulled the trigger...now that they've moved off the dirt theme some, it's not the same grab for me.

If I were still nuts, the 05-06-ish green Tiger would be on the list too...let's make 5 the limit.

...no more than 5 bikes.

I'd have a hard time giving up my America... Good cruising/bike night/customizing/fun bike.

I'd be lying if I didn't have a speed tripple on the list.

I've been thinking about a two-up bike a lot lately. Thinking realistically, maybe a used valkyrie or something along those lines, or a large BMW. Also looked at Bandits a little lately too. I think that would be fun and comfy for two.

Sport Bike would be MV Agusta F4 or a Duc
Street Bike would be a MV Augusta Brutale 1078 or a Street Triple
And of course my back country day bike will always be my Bonneville Black!

Hmm...we sell VStroms and I never would have considered it a dual sport even though it is made to "look" like one. Sort of like Ducati's Multistrada, if you know what I mean.

funny how terms become more important than vision.

"dual sport" used to be "enduro"
now "dual sport" is split between a legal "adventure" road bike that runs across grass and a mud bike that has a plate.

they don't know what to call it, but it has to be pigeon-holed to make the list.

categories should be

full out touring pig
parade bike
race bike
normal bike
fun bike
abuse bike
or
key fob
