Bennington Triumph Bash

I am planning on being there Friday mid-day and would like to spend the afternoon on the water fly fishing. I go to the Maine European Motorcycle event every year wishing I had my pole with me. This coming year I'm taking it with me.

Sorry it is off topic but I'm making the best of my planning.

The Battenkill is it. Lots of spots in Arlington to get in there, even a nice covered bridge. Orvis and the Fly Fishing Museum (no affiliation, just convenient location) where my mom works are in Manchester, which is just north of Arlington. Not a bad ride at all. Check out the Orvis and AMFF sites, maybe they have some maps or directions.

Right next to the Orvis flagship store is the american fly fishing museum...very cool stuff in there!

Now I just need to figure out how to attach the flyrod to the Sprint. I'll wok on that once the warm weather starts showing up. I want to thank everyone for the good information on the area.

If I was you and you are serious about this, you should research what you need to do to get a license to Trout Fish in VT. I am quite sure, like every other State you need to pay the $25 or so to get your license to fish. They get real strict about that stuff in the well known areas like the Battenkill. As you might even know, you will get fisherman who will tell you to scram if they don't see the license. Just a heads-up so you don't bring your gear for nothing.

I picked up a multi-section fly rod ar Bass Pro Shops a while back that collapses into a 2' tube - throw it over your shoulder - think it was $80 or so and they had it on their website

I have been checking out the area at my local flyfishing shop this past week. I posted the lik to vt fish and wildlife in my favs so I don't loose it. The only thing I'm worried about is the didymo problem. So far we have escaped the infection. I would hate to bring it back to my streams. Sounds like if I go fishing I need to soak my gear in a bleach/water mix for a little bit. Mike at the fly shop says it is absolutly worth it. You have been very helpful. The way I'm looking at it is, 8 hour ride down, $30 to $50 for license. Two or three hours watching fish rise, create a memory of a life time when mixed with the Bash and all the people I'll meet along the way!

Know any places you want to go to fish? I know a couple places, basically anywhere you can find to park along the river in Arlington is good...

Too be honest I haven't got that far into the research. I know battenkill is a desirable place. I have been considering the old idea of fishing. If it looks like fish are there then pick a different spot. If the stream has a sustained hatch on it while I'm going by it I should be in luck, If there is a place to stop! Good thing I'll be on a bike, it makes stopping easier. The other issue is private land being posted even though the stream is right on the road. Some waterways have been blocked by that practice here in Maine. Trout unlimited has worked with the State wildlife department to gain the waterway access. Most of the streams are open again.
