Shakedown rides before 9th BTB

I've been riding through this mild winter so the bike is pretty much ready to go - or so I thought. Yesterday I went for a long ride (about 150 miles round trip) and was surprised to see my speedo was dead when I got on the highway.

I was probably doing about 50 mph when I looked down and saw the dead needle. Then I noticed the speedo cable was attached at the front wheel hub and was dragging on the highway. I pulled off and reconnected it to the speedo, but the cable sheeth was worn away in spots. It works for now and I ordered a replacement.

I never really checked the tightness of my speedo cable where it attaches to the gauge, but I guess we all should.

Anyone else coming across strange maintenance issues leading up to this year's BTB?

I'm ready to roll, just need a new rear tire which I'll change shortly. I assume this means you're coming again this year?

New rear tire going on next week; either before or right after it's going to get a pretty long list of PM things. Otherwise good to go.

Tiger recently went to Cyclewise for its first ever valve adjustment... at 87,000 miles.

New tires and front brake pads are going on tomorrow.

Otherwise it's good to go for the BTB and the trip leading up to it (a week in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania).

I chewed through a speedo cable in NL a few years ago... last week I forgot to re-attach the new one and wondered what all that pinging noise was about.

As much as I would love to show off the re-factored bonnie this year, it'll be tiger time again, so new rear brake pads for me is it, hopefully that's it. I eat a set every season it seems.
