Bennington Triumph Bash

Just got my new gps what a wild new toy. Anyone running them on their bikes? I got the Garmin 260 nuvi even saved the paridise in the favorites waiting on the handlebar mount from Fleabay.

I am thinking on getting the ZUMO 450. I do have a GPS on my Laptop I will send you my coordinates, or you can probably just enter the address and find me asap.

GPS are great to find your way back after getting lost.

Or for finding your way back after intentionally getting lost, which for some reason I personally find appealing.

I'm not sure which to get. I definitely want text to speech, but am not sure if the additional expense of Bluetooth is worth the convenience of not having to deal with tangled cables...

I currently have a GPS setup consisting of a standalone GPS receiver module and TomTom Navigator 5 software running on my Palm Tungsten. The GPS and the Palm communicate via Bluetooth. This setup works great in the car, but I haven't tried mounting it to a motorcycle yet. But I'll figure it out this spring or summer -- I'll probably put the Palm into a clear mini Pelican case and mount that to the handlebar, with the GPS module in the map pocket of a tank bag. Ought to be a pretty weatherproof setup; I'll just need to figure out the best way to get power to the Palm, since its battery life is pathetic.

Or I could just buy a new GPS, but I don't see the point in spending the money when I have a working one already.

I've seen only one GPS in action,
(I live in the woods - we just got the Beatles White Album just last week)
and was pretty amazed at what they do.

I had quite a few gee gaws on my bike at one time, but they all need tendin' to,
and so on and so forth and so they're all gone.

I'm going to strip the bike down even more pretty soon,
and will hopefully unveil a new color scheme etc., for debut at Bennington.

My wife desperately wanted to buy me the Garmin Zumo 550 for Christmas but I talked her out of it. I told her,
1. I do respect your Christian Holiday honey but I’m a Jew and its Tooooooo Much!

2. I told her that, I'm not sure if I was bull shitting her or not, that there were some bugs and they were going to release a 650 in the spring.

3. I told her she could buy me one for my 50th if she still felt it necessary.

4. I don't know if it is really necessary, we have onboard GPS in my wife's X3 and I have yet to be lost where I have used it and we have had it since 2004.

Don't get me wrong, I like them, and the Blue-tooth to my Blackberry would be the bomb but so would a Blackberry that has a good GPS program. I could just Velcro it to my handlebars and ware a Blue tooth ear piece.

I couldnt wait for the mount I stuck it in the map pouch on my tank bag and off we went (67 today and work was alittle slow okay I cant lie I cancelled the fucking work ). I tried very hard to get lost but as soon as I hit home back we came shit now I cant tell my wife I got lost. This thing is great screen is very clear and maps work great it will be with me when I get to Bennington I typed in the address for Robins was thinking about running up today for a cup of coffee LOL. I will give more reports as the weather gets better.

I have the Garmin Zumo 450. I had the Nuvi earlier and switched to this waterproof unit. I won't leave home without it!

I used to see roads I thought about riding but was unsure where they led. Now I don't care and I've learned so many new routes and found interesting, new places. If you are in the middle of nowhere, just hit the button to get you home and you're never lost.

But the fun stuff is, do you want Chinese or Italian? Search for restaurants in the area and a list comes up. Fun stuff. Camping grounds, hotels, movies, etc.

Download routes from the Nuvi Forum. Tons of info there.

Funny you should mention that- after 4years of GPS in the SUV my wife and i just found that option 2 weeks ago! It is very cool!

Another thing that anyone who is planning on getting one of these should be aware of is to make sure, like Whisper said, that the unit your gonna buy is water proof. Also, make sure that you can easily maneuver through the various touch screens easily with your gloves on. If you cannot navigate the different screens with gloves on the unit will become frustratingly useless.

Second item every biker needs a vacum sealer you know like you us in the kitchen wala water proof or the good old redneck fart catcher ziplock baggy. Boy Scout thing being prepared.

What kind of money ,you know Ruttebeggas,how much $$$.00 ?

I paid around $450 on Amazon for the Zumo 450. Maybe there are better deals now.

That comes with everything you'll need to attach it to your bike and all the cables you'll need. It comes with MapSource also. More I'm sure, but I can't remember just now.

PS I just thought of this. Don't order from Broadway Photo or other discount places on the Web in order to save a few bucks. You'll get the Japanese version and they won't tell you!

Man gone High tech wife got me a shuffle with the speakers in the helmet she took my ICON in and had the speakers inserted in the pading and a externial plug installed. I am getting a new bike fuck the bonnie I need a new Honda interceptor something good for about a ton and say 80. I have never rode with jams this is going to be a trip might end up in jail or dead.

I used to ride with tunes, but didn't really like it, made me kind of paranoid. I am easily distracted anyway, so this didn't help. We'll see how I do with a GPS this season

You would have to know the past I used to listen to tunes without a radio . I have the sudden urge to go really fuckin fast I mean fast I have hit 180 I am thinking Busa now might be the beer and thinking of meeting up with Tito and doing some three four mile wheelies. I have a S3 but that thing is slow2 what a damn let down she needs about 100 more HP to make me happy . Hey Hank your ass fall off the face of the earth or what. What do you want for that RC51 come on get off of it let me buy it and treat it like a 2 dollar whore.
