Bone Doctor Visit

I have been going to Physical Therapy for over 2 months now and increased my range of motion on both arms, shoulders. I have a calcium deposit in both rotator cuffs and it hurts like hell.

Got 2 Cort ozone shots yesterday to help relive the swelling and continue with PT for 4 more weeks, There is a extra growth of bone that might have to be removed with surgery, hopefully it can wait till late fall.

I stayed home today and rested. Going back to work tomorrow. I am capable of riding the bike ok, not quite at a 100%, but better yet last night was the first time in 4 months that I was able to sleep over 6 hours in one shot.

And you thought that I was a posting whore? LOL I spent many days and nights awake, so It help me relax by reading and posting. Thank you all!

The BASH will be here soon! I am really looking forward to meeting all of you face to face and to be able to look into your eyes, it tells me a lot about people.

Take care my brothers and sisters!

I hear you man I saw the orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago for my right shoulder.
I had the left shoulder operated on about 3 years ago. I let it go for 2 years before
I had it done. I let it go till I could not take the pain any more. I went through many
sleepless nights. If you have the operation make sure he gives you strong meds.
Because the first 24 hours after my surgery I never felt that much pain in my life.

Now it’s the right shoulder it has been hurting for over 6 months now.
It is getting worse every day. I keep working it and stretching it so I don’t loose
any range of motion.
It is always worse at night it wakes me up at least 6 times a night.
I talked with the doc. and I can get the cortisone shot when I’m ready.
He said the x-rays don't look too bad yet.
I will hold off on the shot till a couple of weeks before the Bash
I had a couple of the cortisone shots before my first operation on the left shoulder
and they do help.
If or when I am ready to have it operated on it won’t be till winter time.
Because after all the work I put into my Bonnie there is no way I am going
to miss out on riding her this season.
I hope the shots help relieve the pain for you I know they helped me .

Hey Tito & Bill-

Sorry that you guys are hurting. :(
About 8 years ago I had herniated discs in my neck go CRAZY. Owowowowow! What started as a stiff neck and wierd numbness down my arm and thumb (which was initially misdiagnosed as carpal tunnel) grew to me being out straight, flat on my back for 6 weeks. It was awful, I wouldn't wish chronic pain on anybody- lack of sleep, just pain, ugh!....took months and months and months for me to fully get back to myself. Saw an orthopoedic surgeon, and fortunately surgery wasn't necessary. Just a loooooooong recovery...

Physical therapy seemed to worsen it. I stopped going, read a couple books about healing back pain naturally. Took pain mediation when necessary (being "sober" I resisted pain meds at first, but finally just caved- which I think helped my recovery because I got ahead of the pain, and got a break from the pain of pain), exercised focusing on my "core" leaving my neck and back out of the equation aside from some gentle stretching....Over time it got better.

Every so often my neck will act up.....Eeeeeek! I get a bit nervous. It's terrible to be incapacitated by pain.

Take good care of yourself, Tito. You too Bill!

I'm not one for RULES, really, but let's make a RULE:

GOOD HEALTH & NO INJURIES BEFORE OR DURING THE BASH!!!

Tito my man - those calcium deposits that you are referring to that hurt so much are called Bone Spurs! Ask me how I know? My shifting side is now 90% back to perfect and pain free thanks to the first operation on Jan 2nd. I'm getting the brake side done at 6:15am this coming Wed followed by 4 days of bed rest with foot elevated and doctor prescribed pain medication to be taken as needed for pain - not to be confused with taken for amusement! No matter how much pain I'm in on Sunday I will be pulling the plug on the meds like I did last January. I'm thinking that by the middle of May I should be really functional on my feet and by July I hope to start running some fat off on a daily basis.

The first day back to work will be Monday March 31st on crutches. I hope to be off of them by the end of the week and begin walking again with that walking boot they gave me. I figure 2 - 3 solid weeks in the walking boot and then a week to 10days in Crocs and then I should be able to put on the Merrill's. I'll wear them for about a month and finally be back Home in my Dansko's and Tony Llama's!

Both my shoulders hurt at the rotator cup as well but there is just so much you can do in a winter. I'll address the shoulders next winter. Anyway, the point is - I endured the bone spur pain for 3 years before it intolerable and that's when I addressed it. In hindsight i should have done it a long time ago and been done with it! Please don't wait like I did - Just Do It! :-)

Thank you Hedge!

I hear You. For me too many years of three point landings ( Toes&Nose).....Drunk all the time.30 years of Blue collar Industry( Physical Labor) and plain old abusing my body. I had a cracked lumbar(4 ) The donut ,but didn't herniate , This was 20 years ago, I babied it ,had to give up some radical sports like barefoot water skiing, which I enjoyed. Today ....I have spurs C - joints ( Neck) Some days it's a bitch, excuse my french....welding. For me the Doc says that even if I had neck surgery he could not guarantee that I would feel any better pain - wise.( for me) I know the sleepless nights Tito, when it hurts the most is when we are relaxed therefore interferes with sleep and makes a long next day. We are not Old , yet we are not spring chickens anymore either. I hope (Tito) that you can get it taken care of. Oh yeah , I've been informed from work that I have significant hearing loss.....No shit ! Heavy Industry, man. Good luck to all my Brothers and Sis on this above said , [subject]. Are we getting older trying to be younger ? In my heart I'm still 18. Sometimes. Speed.

Did the cortisone shots help?
I remember before I had the surgery on my left shoulder I got one and it only helped for about a week.
Then I got another one and the second one helped for a good month.

My right shoulder is fucking killing me now and it is just getting worse every day.
I plan on getting the cortisone shot a couple of weeks before the bash and I am
hoping it will help.
I don't plan on getting any thing done till next winter if I can last that long.

SHOTS

The shots helped big time, I am about 75% pain free. There are still certain things, movements that generate a lot of pain, but I have been very careful. I am sure this is only going to last for a little while, but it sure has helped me get some sleep. I feel rested.

Next Wednesday it will be a week since the shots and I begin PT again for another month. In a month I returned to see the Bone Doctor again for an evaluation and If neccessary more shots. I just want to ride this season.

I will keep you posted. The BASH will be here soon.

I got the shots in both feet, twice a year for 3 years. It helped mask the pain but never resolved it. To me the shots are like temporary band-aids.
