As someone on the RAT forum said, here is a Cliff Note version of Mistermellow's ride report. This is a connection to pics and report of my cross country trip. Two different styles. It takes awhile to load, so give it a chance if you're interested.

Brett,
As I stated, it's the condensed version of Mellow's. Short and sweet.
PS The Prius is my brother's.

Great report, John! I will ride cross-country myself some day. Don't know yet when, but it will happen eventually.

Mark,
You've got the perfect bike for such a ride! That V-Strom would eat up the roads just fine and I've seen first hand how you handle it! You'll love it. Don't do what I did and let too much time go by before you make your trip. Young bones are better at long rides! Although I have to say, I never felt any butt pain nor back pain. I admit my shoulders squeeked a bit at the end of each day, but that's because I was a nut in my riding style. I didn't get off enough to stretch and move my arms. I was a total nut-case. I often didn't even stop for lunch. Gas, water and go! Next trip I won't put myself under such time constraints.
