Falling Leaves & Snow

Well I gathered leaves yesterday , felt like I accomplished something until I got up this morning , more on the ground than yesterday. Blew out the gutters tonight ....chocked full of leaves......mostly Oak ......the neighbors trees , figures , they blow up the driveway up against the garage and the backdoor of the house. I love the Fall colors but don't exactly like the clean-up. LOL {not all at once}
Big snow swirl just west of Illinois heading this direction. I guess the Dakotas got 4 ft. of snow and ground them to a halt. I'm sure they are pretty used to big snowstorms but my God not that much.
I didn't get much riding in this summer although I would have liked too. Thinking about the Bash next year and trying to think of ways to save some bread in doing so. Speed.
Edit: Snow appears to be going North. Good.

Ya...FUCK snow and fuck winter.
It will be here soon enough. I really hate winter but, I have on desire to live any where else.
I won't be doing any mods on the bike this year because I will be have surgery on my right shoulder by this January.
My new Bonnie is pretty much where I want her now anyway...well more power would be nice.
Maybe next year the 1200 cc. will go in.
I want to start working on my old 1976 Bonnie I just have not got motivated to get it started yet.
I am definitely looking forward the next years Bash.

I used to like winter because I loved going snowboarding.

Now snowboarding is so fucking expensive that I can't afford it anymore. $80 for a single-day lift ticket? Those bastards are out of their fucking minds. So now I'm lucky if I go snowboarding once during the whole winter. (Also, the fact that I got a bit bored riding the same terrain over and over again didn't help my motivation...)

This winter I'm planning to stud the tires on my Honda dual-sport and attempt to ride through the winter. We'll see how long I stick to that idea. But I think studded knobbies would make the bike lots of fun on snowy dirt roads and whatnot, and I live close enough to work that I'll try to keep commuting on the bike too... although I might give in and take the cage when it's sub-zero out.

Robin and I spent the whole weekend riding and looking at leaves. Saturday we started out heading south easterly and made a circuitous route that went through Talladega Alabama and past the Helen Keller Institute. We stopped at my cousins bar and grill in Pell City AL and then made it back home in time for the big game at 2:30. UA at LSU.

Sunday we went up to Fort Payne(Home of the country music group ALABAMA) and came down through Little River Canyon. Deepest Canyon east of the Mississippi. Stopped at a great little Mexican restaurant for lunch right in the heart of Fort Payne.

The leaves were beautiful and we got to ride a little over 400 miles over the weekend. Temperatures went from the mid 40s to the mid 60s. Sunday was a little cooler temps never got out of the 50s. Beautiful weekend, beautiful ride, beautiful riding partner.

Winter is coming! It was 34F when I rode to work this morning and it got windy, snowed and I froze my balls on the way home. I love riding my bike! It is going to be a long fucking winter. Thanks to my cross country skis and snowshoes to make winter go by even quicker!

Tito, get one of the cheap dual-sports that have been popping up on Craigslist, stud the tires, and go riding on snowy dirt roads with me!

I'm wiring up my Honda for heated grips and a heated vest.

I actually really like riding when there's snow on the ground.

I used to hit the woods in 4-6" of snow and laugh my maniac ass off.

then I grew up and had no fun at all until someone gave me a snowmobile for fixing their 350 Honda up...I found myself out in 18" laying sideways on the ground laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. I was down at the farm at the time, and would run up on the hilltops in complete deep woods solitude while the big flakes just paralyzed everything with only a small fire to warm my lips...golden memories...one of the high points of my life.

I've been looking at the DR650 for a couple years now and am not going to be happy until I get another dirt-ish bike...roads and V-Twin chrome posers have me staying home when I should be out wailing. I have the Jeep in the garage right now for winterizing and am trying to get inflamed about 4 wheeling again, but that bad boy keeps begging me to take the body off and do a frame-up restoration in winter when I use it. no can do.

as far as heat,
vest vs, jacket liner...I have a full Gerbings set and the jacket liner has wires down the sleeves and around the collar and can vouch highly for it.

I also have the pants liner that's good but I really don't use it. best I've found is a pair of fleece lined windbreaker pants over a couple jogging pants layers.

heated gloves I have and it's like trying to pick your nose with pillows tied on your toasty hands.
heated socks are primo, but I don't use them. The core temp is all you need to be concerned with and the rest can be done cheap.

I'd promote the jacket liner big time with a couple light layers for agility, and socks 2nd, and skimp on the rest.

I would do the snow with you if I were Vermont-ish.
