Well sometimes we do silly things , but it was over 40F yesterday morning with slight rain and I said what the hell, I am riding my bike to work today.
BIG MISTAKE!
The temperature dropped 20F instantly after lunch and the rain turned into sleet and snow so I ended up parking the bike in a heated garage at work and driving my service vehicle home. Wow was that driveway slippery!
I will wash it this week and top it off with some non ethanol fuel and wait for a sunny day this coming week to put it away for the winter.
Nevertheless it felt great to ride the bike yesterday, I am still smiling!

Tito, I thought about riding in yesterday also. However I need gas i nthe bike so I didn't want to stop in the morning for gas.
Atleast you got one last ride in. Glad you parked the bike instead of riding it. Now if you had the v-strom with studs you could ride it.

This week is the first time since April that I HAVEN'T ridden the bike to work. It was too slippery out Monday and Tuesday. I did ride to work yesterday, but by lunchtime it was looking so shitty out that I rode the bike home and came back in the car.
Conveniently, the tires left a perfect tread imprint on the street in front of my house so I can tell exactly where to put studs.
I'm hoping to stud the Honda's tires in the next week or two, then I'll be able to ride whenever I feel like it.
The V-Strom, meanwhile, sits under its cover and waits for days when the roads are clean. And the Triumph sits in the neighbor's garage, topped off with stabilized non-ethanol gas, carbs empty, fresh oil in the sump, waiting for spring.

That's awesome guys.
I put my Scrambler up for good last weekend, my last ride this year was the weekend after Thanksgiving, pretty good for Northern Maine.

I rode to work about a week and a half ago - 40's to around 50 degrees. This Monday, the 13th, looks good too, about the same.
I never really put my motorcycle up for winter because throughout the season in NJ an occasional day pops up suitable for riding.
Now those Florida folks....!

Rode again today!

I rode the V-Strom today to put it away in storage for the winter today. Rode 14miles in cold weather, 2 slippery spots on the road, had to shovel the snow bank in front of the door to get the bike in the building.
I am going to miss riding! It was a good year I rode over 12,000 miles, Where are those snow shoes and cross country skis? LOL

There's no way I beat you, Tito -- I've got nearly 12,500 on the V-Strom alone (which, as you'll recall, I picked up brand-new in April). Add in the mileage I put on the Honda and the Triumph and I've got 16,000+ miles for the season. You've got to have done more than that with all the rallies and stuff you went to.
As for winter riding... I rode to work three out of five days this week, and I talked to my friend John yesterday who owns a motorcycle repair shop here in Burlington -- we're planning a tire studding session for the first weekend in January.

Mark, I'll be interested to know the outcome of the studding. Ok that sounds a little dirty... But interesting! I have no plans on that for my bike, but maybe the mountain bike

I rode through two CT winters a couple decades back. That ended when I found myself on I-84 in Hartford at about 65 mph when I hit black ice. Managed to stay up and keep going but I got the message in a big way. No more cold weather riding for me.

My thermometer says -27 below zero and the local weather says -17 below zero, it is way too cold for me today. One cold week for sure and hopefully warmer by next week.

It was 15 degrees this morning. Robin keeps telling me I misrepresented the warm sunny south. This is about as cold as it gets down here and then maybe only once a year, I hope.

It was about 15 below zero when I drove to work on Friday morning. I haven't been able to ride for a couple weeks now and it's really pissing me off. Tire studding has yet to happen because my friend who has access to the studding gun has been impossible to get a hold of for weeks now. And since we're now halfway through the winter, I'm not sure there's much point anymore, so I may not bother. Unfortunately that does mean that I can't ride when the roads are snowy like today, which sucks.
