I don't know your name, but here's to you.
So here's what happened. My bike has been laid up while I've been doing some mods. My friend Rusty has an 01 speed triple that he's been trying to kill for a while so he can get a new bike (he refuses to buy a new one while he still owns a running one) but the darn thing just won't die.Rusty went out of town the other day and let me borrow his bike so I'd have something to ride. First thing I noticed after a day of riding was it had developed what I thought was an oil leak. I called Rusty and told him and said I could stay off the bike if he wanted or keep riding and keep an eye on the oil level and fill it up if it got too low, he told me to keep an eye on the level and keep riding. I was riding later that day and it and it ran out of gas but the gas light never came on. No big deal, I filled it up and headed home. The next day I got a call from Gengras Triumph letting me know some parts were in so I jumped on the triple and headed out to pick them up. On the way home from the dealership the gas light came on and my thought was, "I filled it up yesterday after the light never came on and have put 60 miles on it since... That light must be malfunctioning." So I kept riding and I sputtered and died. I was out of gas. The leak that I thought was oil was actually gas, it looked like oil because the gas was washing the oil off the motor that had leaked out previously, and I didn't really smell it because the bike burns oil so everything about it smells like burnt fluids. So I was pushing the bike to a safe place on the highway and this guy on a Harley pulled up and asked what happened. After explaining everything starts helping me push the bike to some place safe. While pushing the bike a cop pulls up, asks what happened, after explaining it once more he tells us that we can't push a bike down the highway so he'll wait there while I do one of two things, one, I call a tow truck to bring me a gallon of gas which will cost me about $100 or the guy on the HD can go get me some gas and we can settle up how ever we see fit. I tell the guy on the HD that he's already done more then enough and that if he wants to just take off, I'll call a truck. He tells me that he'd go get gas and he takes off before I could change his mind. 15 or so minutes later he returns with a 3 gallon can of gas and gives it to me. I fill up Rusty's bike and get it started again. As soon as I get the bike started, the guy on the HD walks toward his bike. I call him back and explain that I didn't have any cash on me but if he'd follow me to an ATM I'd get him back with extra for the trouble. He shook my hand and said, "Don't worry about it, just do it to someone else and we'll be even." I really wish I could find this guy and pay him back for being so kind to me but since I can't, I wanted to use every outlet I had to tell this story in hopes that not only will I do the same for someone sometime, but that the people I know will do the same. I think that if I'm not the only one that repeats an action like this, I'll have repaid him several times over.
