Man, if my fucking bike would start and stay running, I would do that.
Sigh....
I need a plan - and a good diagnostic mechanic. And world peace, gotta have world peace.

I'm on Long Island, but I'll be taking the ferry on thursday and heading up thru CT...
But a good route is up 22, it's quick and fairly straight, but much more interesting than the thruway. Altho I DID see a cop on it last weekend!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll put 22 in the route.
David - try Locomotion Powersports in Suffern. The mechanic you want to speak to is Gary.

Hey Dave,
What are you riding and what seems to be the issue?

2007 Bonneville. Dying out at stop lights [but restarting], backfiring, then hard starting. Thoroughly cleaned, adjusted, and examined fuel system.
Checked ht coil and resistance on primary was nil [or so my meter showed]. Replaced coil and all good for 80 miles and back to dying out and hard starting. Bike alternately starts and runns and then dosen't. Checked for spark and had none. Half hour later bike fires up, shut it off, no start.
Checked air gap on pickup coil but not resistance. Plugs nearly new, wires have specified resistance. Have battery on charge now and will check voltage.
I am thinking it is the ICU.

Agreed, that was my next suggestion. When you get a gremlin like this, it can be tough to track down. When you say your getting no spark at all I am assuming you mean on both plugs. If you are getting spark on one, switch out your wires leading from your coils to the plugs. If the spark switches, look at the wires or coil first.
I do not have a Bonnie, but a Thurderbird. Another issue may be the igniter if you have one on your bike. Just a thought. Good luck!

Hi. I'm heading up Friday morning from Sparta NJ . Shooting to get there by around noon, and would love to hook up with other riders.

I plan to do the same, leaving from Middletown. I'll let you know as the time draws nearer. My route, I think, will be up through Albany and cross the river at Cohoes [scared of big bridges], route 7 to Bennington.

Dave, Rt 7 is kinda boring until you get to the hoosick area. Consider going east further south and up 22. You can make good time, and it's a nice ride. Better than the thruway anyway! But you may have another super secret route in mind

Alas, I am shit scared of high bridges - Cohoes is the first one that won't freak me out. I crossed the Bear Mtn a few times but the last time I nearly flipped my lid. Wouldn't be bad at night, drunk, or on quaaludes, but all that shit's dangerous!

Gil and I are planning to meet up early on Friday. I put together something of a route which I think will be better than any slabbing lol. Send me an email to dolivette at yahoo dot com and let's see if we can't all get together to ride up.

I have to wait for my wife to get home from from work on Friday and after her day she will be too tired to ride. We will be trailering up the S3 and maybe her honda.
If anyone needed to (hopefully wont) I could trailer a bike back down to the NYC/Island area.
