Bennington Triumph Bash

I'm thinking about dashing off to NH after work tomorrow, staying in Lincoln on Friday night and then do the Kancamagus Highway to Conway, maybe go up Mt. Washington and come back home to Glens Falls. I've been there by car a bunch of times, but never considered the trip from a bike perspective. Does anyone have any tips for good places to camp? Anyone been up Mt. Washington recently? Also wanted to mention I started this trip two weekends ago, got as far as Mansfield VT on Friday night late, and it rained all night and continued on Saturday, so I aborted and returned home the same way I came, by Crown Point. I did get a chance to test my new Triumph one piece rainsuit, and it passed with flying colors! I just wish it came in a higher visibility color than black, but otherwise it is about a perfect design. I'll be leaving Glens Falls by 4 pm, going through Rutland VT to White River Junction, up 91 to Fairlee, over 25A to 118 to Lincoln. If anyone is free and would like to join me for the ride, just give me a holler.

As it happens, I'm doing a day ride over to the Kanc tomorrow with a few folks.

As for places to camp... I think there are a bunch of campgrounds right on the Kancamagus Highway. If you won't be able to make it that far, I think there's also a campground at Lost River, which is on Rt 112 before you get to Lincoln.

Or just watch for signs -- I'm sure you'll pass plenty of campgrounds on the way there, although some of them may be closed for the season by now. A lot of campgrounds shut down in mid-September.

Thanks for the reply. I did some searching online and found some campground/cottage combinations, as I probably won't get much farther than Lincoln by dark.

Well, I postponed one more week, hoping for a better forecast for the entire weekend. I'd like to come home Sunday instead of Saturday, and while I don't mind riding in rain, the whole point is the scenery in that area, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that Mother Nature is a little kinder next weekend (warmer temperatures wouldn't be a bad thing either).

You might want to postpone for another week. Forecast is looking crappy. And my experience on the Kanc Saturday was that the leaf peepers are so bad right now that there's not much point riding there, unless you don't mind asshats going 5-10 under the speed limit and suddenly slamming on their brakes because they've decided they HAVE to pull over RIGHT NOW.

Well , trout season ends the 15th, so I guess I'll just have to pursue one of my other passions this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for an Indian Summer this year!

I guess we scored on both weather and traffic fronts, because we did the Kanc last Tuesday and traffic was light everywhere, and the weather was great.

Oh, and yes, Hurricane Mountain Road was a complete hoot, thanks Mark.
