Rain

So obviously, going to work today in the rain and looking at the forcast for today and tomorrow I have come to clearly see that Mark and Benny, the two native Vermonters are 100% right. Say we moved the Rally a week into June which would have been this weekend instead of last weekend. I still would have been leaving today in the Rain but only harder than last weekend and I still would stand in the woods for 2 days with rain coming down - only harder for this Thursday & Friday; with Saturday & Sunday looking like it is going to clear up just like last weekend. I'm afraid I'm just going to have to say that we just had bad luck 2 years in a row and that moving the rally into June doesn't guarantee anything! That being said I guess the best time for the rally if we continue to hold it in the Spring would still be the weekend directly after Memorial day whatever day it falls on. Then we just roll with the weather however it comes. Now I'll shut my pie-hole about this subject and let the planners plan as they wish!

Like I was saying in one of the other threads, I had a ride down to Curtis BBQ a couple years ago with my RAT pack. It was in the middle of August, and it was so cold and drizzly that morning that I half expected to see snowflakes. I was damn cold till I got all the way down to Woodstock -- I had to stop off at Cyclewise and stand inside and have some coffee to warm up. Dan Bisbee actually wore his electric vest.

It ended up turning into a beautiful afternoon, but the point is that the weather can be unpredictably nasty any time of year. And from mid-June till mid-August, the bugs would be so bad that all the campers would be driven out of their minds.

If we move it to the first weekend in June next year, then the last weekend in May will be beautiful and the first weekend in June will suck. It is just the way the weather is around here. We have a couple of sayings.

In Vermont our summers usually come on a weekend in July and you just hope you are home that weekend!

Yes we get a lot of rain, that is why it is the GREEN Mountain state :-)

And to think I though I was crazy for living in Connecticut with its long winters and cold wet springs. I didn't know how good we have it down here until I spent three days living in a 45 degree cloud on the side of Mr. Ed's mountain. Let's leave the date alone next year and just change our accomodations. Let's see, maybe someplace with heat and a hot tub??? Actually I'm thinking about the place BonnevilleBilly stayed at. How was that place Bill?

That's probably true Benny, But despite my bitching and moaning about the weather, I still had a great weekend with all of you guys on the mountain. Just gotta bring more layers next year.

It rained last weekend? I just thought it was summer time in Maine! Other than that bright yellow thing that came out Saturday I had a great time!

Please don't complain about the rain. Up on the Blue Ridge close to 6000ft there was a place that still had small piles of snow on the side of the road in three places. This was on June 3rd.

I predict snow for next years bash.

BOSS ED "thanks for not killing my evergreens"

BOSS ED "you'll make mud parking your bike in the grass"

Boss Ed "there are cans for the recycleable items, I'm not a trash picker." said as he was digging thru the trash for the bottles.

Boss Ed is a nice guy and runs a nice outfit. He provided us some great fooder for humor.

Lol seems to be a prerequisite. All his rules and BS are fine, it's his place (and when you make the rules, you're always right!!) But the "You must be a NYer" backhanded quip, when he's FROM Westchester, was a bit much for me...

I'm still trying to figure out his stance on showers. Does he really expect campers to use the one portapotty and not bathe at all?
