I left Mark and John to take the ferry across Lake Champlain, where it was clear, but probably blasting 35+ knots. Headed through Elizabethtown, and about 10 miles outside of Keene this Sauron-grade wall of evil black cloud shit the likes of which I've never seen is coming over the peaks. I pull off on the shoulder to don some wet gear and go maybe another 2 miles before deciding on a new plan: getting the hell off this road. Pulled the bike onto some dirt a little ways off the road, crouched in the bushes and hunkered down as this crap came through the pass at 40mph first as mad wind, then rain, hail, and finally snow.
A nice woman in a Subaru pulled off to make sure I was OK, I convinced her that I was golden since I was in fact LMAO under my helmet at the snow coming down. After the worst had passed I took off and hit a tavern about 3 miles up the road to get some coffee and wait it out. Of course I had no idea the place was there at the time, but there's no way I would have made it in time anyway.
After my coffee the bloody sun was shining, so I rolled on to Lake Placid and checked in, where the above photo was taken.
This morning I was gassing up in Saranac Lake when up pulls Jim-Orange-Rocket-Crazy-Fat-Tire and Andy(?) Speed triple. I guess they'd hit some of it too. I split off and headed north on the 30 and rolled into Ottawa around 1:30pm.
Thanks to everyone for such a great time.
Mike
