Yes $100 a night is steep, Yes it is at the top of the mountain so if the friday night or saturday night parties get to you I'm sure you could crash in someones room. Camping and other hotels at the bottom of the mountain, which translates into an awsome ride up the twisty mountian road. Don't forget that this is a rural Maine town so there isn't many hotel motel style places around there. checkout this link for more camping and town info.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll check around the area to see what turns up. (BTW, the Bethel link doesn't work.)

No Problem Marde. I just want as many BTB brothers and sisters there as possible. Sorry about the link. I am trying to post it at work which has strict internet rules set by the it nazi.

Just search Bethel Maine in any search engine you like.

oh, my god, there are a shit load of little motels, and B&B's around there. Its just most of the activities take place at the jordan. it used to be more than that? and the rooms and faclities are great. if you look at Bethel maine or newery maine you should be able to find something. I personally hate camping out for a bike vacation. Thats just me.

No, it's not. These events do not compete with each other. This is not a popularity contest.

I would love to go to the MEME event sometime, but it's at a fantastically inconvenient time of year. I'm always super busy in late July. Also, the fact that it's so centralized on the resort makes it a little tough for poor bastards like me who can't afford to get a room there.

Besides, I think Paul was kidding. Since he lives in Alabama it would probably be kind of tough for him to make it regardless!

Yes I was just kidding. The real problem is if I go above the Mason Dixon line more than once a year thay will take away my card.

I'm already on double secret probation for marrying a Yankee.

MEME

Postby davidc » Wed Jun 24, 2009 11:35 am

Since I have attended one BTB and almost attended another, I will bravely venture to the MEME as a representative of the Vermont Green Gang, athough I am from New Jeresy. I just won't speak and no one will know.
But seriously, I went to the MEME last year and the same sort of spirit existed there as the BTB. No "harley" type mentality, nice people, and cool motorcycles!
It is worth a go!

I can't wait for this event, it will be my third MEME meet. I previously went in 2004 and 2008.

Mark,
if noone came over from the group that goes to the btb, then its really just that...no one came over...it has nothing to do with competition...but it has a lot to do with reciprocity. And to-date it was really only me and bret and a few others only coming out to btb...but no one coming to the meme event ... its not competing its not on the same date.... but it is a reciprical favor if some of the btb/vermont folks come over to my event if I am going to go to yours....not competion simple 2 different events that both vermonters and mainers can go to on two different dates. Its been at least 5 years now that you know about meme and the event is in its 10 year. If you can make it good. If not, thats ok, but as I tell many about btb, we need you to tell many about the meme event. Competition is the wrong word....reciprocity is the word...especially when it comes to event organizers talking amongst one another...

mmm o.k.?

David Percival's BMW Museum will be open this year. a big treat for any euro enthusiast. The museum was open about 3 years ago, and people really get a good look into the history and eveolution of BMW motorcycles when they vist this place. A great suprise and another attraction for the event ...and another reason to attend.

Sorry Hank, I don't see it that way. People go to events because they're interested in them, not because they're doing someone else a favor. Reciprocity has nothing to do with it. I'm not interested in an "I'll come to your event if you come to mine" contest.

I encourage people to attend both events if they can. I would like to attend MEME, and I've wanted to for years, but the timing is terrible for me. And I've got to be honest -- you guys do not make it poor-person friendly. It's so centered around a rather expensive resort -- the several hundred dollars it would cost to fully take part could go to pay for gas for an entire two-week motorcycle tour instead. I have a tight budget and need to make hard decisions about what I spend my money on.

I'm hoping to be able to make it up there for the Saturday or Sunday, but it's all going to depend on how busy we are at work and what else I have demanding my time.

If I am able to make it, it will be because I want to attend the event, not because I feel some sense of obligation. I hope it will be the same if you make it to the BTB next year.
