Heading to the BMW Rally in WV nest week after my track day, then heading out to Tennessee and NC to Rip Deals Gap area and returning home on the 29th.

Made a list of awesome roads to explore, must find great BBQ!!! :-)

I wish I could come with you! Can't afford it though because I'm funneling all my extra money into my upcoming Trans-Lab trip.

Have fun!

If you go through Maggie Valley, NC, stop by the Grizzly Grill on US 19 for BBQ. It's worth a detour.

I have a hard time planning trips to NC because there are so many great roads. Just can't get enough of those tight mountain roads.

A bunch of friends are riding that area (VA/NC/TN/GA) but might be going through after you've been and gone. They're riding Deal's Gap and they're going to catch the moonbow at Cumberland Falls near Corbin, KY too. If you happen to see a group of twenty or so with Long Reach Long Rider patches, tell them I said hi. A good mix of bikes, but I don't think any Triumphs unfortunately.

Have a great time on the Dragon, and stay away from the THP! The roads you're riding should be great.

Tito,

Are you hitting Shady Valley TN on the way down?

Route 16 out of WV is sweet through VA, NC 88 is some nice riding and it dumps out on to US 421 about 20 miles from Shady Valley. NC 196 through Valle Crucis and NC. If your interested I have some GPS files saved of some routes that were nice riding and a pretty quick route down. Plus some stretches of NC 209 and 63 are in my happy place list.

SOO many places to see and TOO little time to get there....

Files sent,

I forgot to mention Hunt's Lodge in Tellico Plains, TN.

http://www.huntslodge.com/

Nice facility with food and beer close by. Only a few miles from the Cherohala Skyway, soft grass for pitching a tent, nice cabins, pavilion, grill, coffee, fire pit, clean bath house with good showers. The owner, Jack has got a bunch of miles under his belt and is good people, can't say enough about the place.

Damn I can't wait to ride.

I ran into Tito on Saturday; he's back home safe and sound, and appears to have had a great trip.

Details, Tito! We want details!

Road Trip 2009

Postby TonUp » Sun Aug 30, 2009 6:28 pm

Cool Road Trip, we rode 2,777 in under 8 days. Attended the 2009 BMWRA Rally in WV, then on to TN to rip up the Cherohala Skyway, then to Deals Gap to Slay the Dragon, onto Route 28 in NC, to Asheville for a great BBQ at 12 Bones, then to the Blue Ridge PKWY, onto Route 421 to kill the SNAKE. Then to Crozet, VA and finally back home to VT.

Great roads, friendly people and awesome food.
