The routes already mapped and posted are terrific! Many thanks to whoever rode those and mapped them out for us (especially Rosie's in Middlebury). Since I live not too far west of these, I have ridden them as long day trips from home, and I have decided it is really impossible to find a bad road to ride in Vermont! Since some of you may have ridden these in the past, or are arriving early, I though I would share our route from last year, as it was pretty nice, and is not one of the standard routes.
My buddies and I rode up Mt. Greylock, as they had just opened the newly renovated road to the summit. If any of you have not done that ride, it is truly spectacular, especially on a clear day. Those of you arriving early and not wanting to ride the same route twice might want to check it out, as it is a nearby destination, and can be adjusted for total time by expanding the return trip. We went south from Bennington down RT 7 to RT 2 east through Williamstown, and then south onto Notch Road to the summit. We exited the summit down Rockwell and Greylock roads to RT 8 north through Adams and North Adams. Then 2 east all the way to Charlemont, left onto 8A north to 112 north to 100 north. Left onto 9 west, and back to the campground. A wonderful loop.
By the way, if you are a museum lover and have extra time, there is a great fine arts museum in Williamstown (the Clark), and a great modern art museum in North Adams (Mass MOCA). Both of these are well worth the time.
