I think they were there mostly for the last Saturday, as the previous year they had a bunch of REALLY LOUD Harleys that rolled in on their way to Laconia, and the local police had their hands full. That is the problem with huge events, in that you can't easily keep the dumbasses from attending, and they ruin it for all of the decent riders by pissing off all of the locals. There is a really easy detour if you want to be sure, at the point where Rt. 32 goes towards Glens Falls. It takes you over to Ballard Road, and then over the mountain to Corinth, where you continue up through Hadley Luzerne and back to the Northway at exit 21. You could also keep to back roads all the way to North Creek, which adds just 3 or 4 miles to your original route, but of course adds a chunk of time due to the size of the roads. If you want any more specifics, I ride all of these between North Creek and Glens Falls often, so I can give you more specific directions if you would like. I can even ride both your route and the back road route from their splitting point, and time how much longer it would actually be. The google map time estimates don't seem to be accurate for motorcycles and back roads.
