I try to go every year, since it's not that far from me, and I know some tastey ways of getting there.

Are you familiar with the roads in the northeastern region of Pennsylvania? Since I will be leaving after work on Thursday, I was thinking of staying at the Little Pond campsite near the Pepacton Reservoir in the western Catskills. Google maps gives me two choices from there to the meet avoiding interstates. I could also camp for the night in the northeastern end of Penn. if there are any decent campgrounds. I am looking at about a 6 1/2 hour ride on Friday if I stay in NY on Thursday, less if I get some of Penn. behind me on Thursday. Any advice?

Go to Port Jervis and then ride south along the PA side of the Delaware River { Routes 209, 611, 32}. That ride does not suck. At New Hope it would be wise to get on 202 west and meander thataway toward York. If you go much further south than New Hope, it begings to get crappy as you near Philadelphia.

Thanks for that David. I had actually just read a ride report in one of my bike mags about that area, but I will be coming in to the north of this area, and was looking for some route advice in the northeast corner of PA. The Del Gap looks like a nice trip, but would bring me too far south and east with the time constraints I have. I'll have to do the ride back on Sunday in one shot, so was hoping to do the more scenic backroad stuff on Thursday and Friday on the way to the rally.
I am pretty familiar with the traffic and roads nearer Philly, as my daughter goes to college near there, and actually have found 88 and 81 to be pretty relaxed and scenic roads as far as interstates are concerned. Now, 476, that's a different story (no escape or run offs with those concrete dividers). To make the best time, we run 87, 287 and 78 to 476, but these are not bike friendly roads, and I would only do this if I absolutely had to get there asap.
