Rooms are going fast - posted 3/28

I like the Kirkside for a number of reasons, especially my bike right at my door and the benches under a roof vs. wee hours all weather whiskey slurp-age.
After I got off the phone 5 minutes ago from booking the Kirkside for Thursday evening 5/31 thru Sunday morn 6/3,
there are only 2 rooms left there due to college weekend.

Long story short - according to the desk man, that is a very busy weekend in Bennington for the hotels and motels due to the massive college thing. Those in attendance at prior years BTB events will concur with this co-existent college weekend event.

Don't know how the other motels are doing, but it would seem sooner may be better than later if you want a room.

Very good point. We ran into this at the Kirkside at the 2010 bash. The guy made a big stink about it when I called to make a reservation, then I think he sold only seven rooms that weekend...but it may have had more to do with his personality and crotchety disposition He also tried saying that they only accept cash, when clearly there was a credit card machine on the desk next to him and Visa/MC/Discover logos on the front door.

They do go fast though for most of the hotels that the bash frequents. When I called the Paradise about two weeks ago, I think there were only 9 rooms left or so.

He was actually polite on the phone the other day - my first encounter with him in 2 or 3 years of staying there. Prior to this, I'd only watched him load his car in the parking lot. He definitely had that certain "I wish I could taste a gun barrel right now" look on his face. Acute pain maybe?

For BTB 2011 I started the first night camping, but don't have cold weather gear. After an encounter with stage II hypothermia some years ago, I wimped it and went to the Kirkside and booked a room Friday or Saturday no problem. Cancellations? Probably. There were many college folks at the Kirkside as evidenced by parking lot banter. I'm pretty much the crazy old guy we've all seen - if you're 5 feet away I'm going to talk to you - whether you want me to or not.

Ok I am one of those fair weather bikers. if it is a nice weekend I will ride the bike all the way. if it is not I will trailer it! will have to find a small tent that will fit on my bike though if I ride all the way.

Well, last year was the first we didn't have any rain at all. All other years we got soaked. Its always a good time though. Fair weather riders be warned:)

I just booked the last room at the Kirkside. Lucked out as they had a cancellation.
Looking forward to the event.
