Super Pix Bucky, I especially love the Fall shots. That is a real nice Tour Tank you have on the back - I'm gonna pick your brain on that setup for sure the next time i see you!.

I wonder what kind of car it was that caught fire in the parking lot.

On the Northeast Kingdom ride last fall, Dan, Jason, Andy, and I stopped for a quick break at a pull-off on the side of some lonely road, where we found a similar burned-up mess that used to be a pickup truck.

Why, that's any easy one - because they need a "mouthpiece'

The name of the monks is the CARTHUSIAN FOUNDATION from Spain I believe, the Monks control the Mountain top where all the tower sites are for FM Radio, Paging, Cellular, Two Way, etc....

Monks

Postby Bucky » Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:21 am

All kidding aside, they are an extraordinary group of people

Talk about an extreme level of commitment to a sense of spirituality

http://laycarthusians.homestead.com/tra ... ation.html

http://www.catholic.net/rcc/Periodicals ... ofile.html

Quoted from link above:
"The schedule for a monk’s day conveys both the simplicity and the rigor of the Carthusian life:"

• 11:30 pm: The monk rises and prays the Matins of Our Lady in his cell.
• 12:15 midnight: He goes to the church for the communal chanting of Matins and Lauds
*** • 2:00-3:00 am: After the community chanting (which can take from 1 to 2 hours), he prays the Lauds of Our Lady alone, then returns to bed.
• 6:30 am: He rises for the hour of Prime (alone), and prepares himself for Mass.
• 7:45 am: The community Mass is celebrated in the church. Afterward, each monk celebrates Mass alone in one of the monastery’s tiny chapels.
The members of the community who are not priests are assigned to serve at one of these private Masses.
• 9:00 am: He returns to his cell for mental prayer, the solitary prayer of Terce, spiritual reading, and manual work.
• 11:30 am: He prays Sext, and then has his main (and perhaps only) meal of the day.
• 2:00 pm: He prays None, continues his manual labor and spiritual reading, and ends the afternoon with the Vespers of Our Lady.
• 5:00 pm: The community gathers in the church again for Vespers.
• 5:30 pm: Back in his cell, the monk prays in solitude. Between Easter and the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross (September 14),
he has a simple collation of bread and water; for the rest of the year, his midday meal is the only one.
• 8:00 pm: The monk prays Compline alone, then retires."

*** Sure would like to hear that live

Good to know that somebody is out there standing the wall against the powers of Evil
I like to walk around in denial that a force of evil exists, then when we learn of incidents
such as the horrific home invasion in Cheshire, CT, the frail comfort of said denial vanishes.
If that situation in Cheshire wasn't all about a force of pure evil, I don't know what was.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the meditaion period is really a short nap until 11:30am! Otherwise, this is a brutal commitment!

I dunno, in my opinion there's nothing demonic about these kinds of horrible things that humans do to each other. There are simply a lot of people out there who are complete pieces of shit and who have no regard for anyone but themselves. That's not the work of the Devil, it's just the work of really fucked-up humans who take selfishness to extremes.

Interesting! I didn't know about that order and their monastary atop Mt. Equinox. How cool.
I can't imagine living that kind of solitude and austerity for more than....oh......maybe 2 days?
When we're riding by, I'll hope that some of their serenity floats down on us. :)

Well Paula, you'll have to hope from the lookout, cause women aren't allowed in! I think maybe one day a year they are allowed to visit, cause we had a woman governer for a while. I believe they started in France, and it's in that monestary that they produce Chartreuse. The liquor, not the color :) There's a good place to stop on the way up or down that has a great view of the monestary.

Yup. There's that one straight stretch along the ridge that connects the two peaks. There's room to pull over on both sides there and it's kinda level, so we could stop in either direction. Good view from there. You can kinda see it from the top too.
