RT 172 is awesome and the village of Tadoussac is beautiful. Wish I can ride the Speed Triple up there someday. The roads are perfect for pulling big monster 3rd gear standup wheelies!!! LOL

I assume you're talking about the one up to Chicoutimi? Tito wanted to do that -- really nice roads and fjords there, apparently. Sounds good to me!

Ah, that explains it. Everything looks so flat on the map...

That was part of our 5 day Quebec trip last year. Awesome scenery.

CABOT TRAIL

Got my passport in a week. Awesome.

Picking up new tent next month. My current tent is great for 1 but crowded with two and gear. The new tent will be a 3 person tent. more room for gear and larger vestibules are very handy as well.

I am getting a new front tire on the WEE-Strom soon. It will have over 10k miles on the old one. Next set of tires I am switching to the Metzeler's.

Okay, I gotta ask...

Are you guys planning on riding fast (like our ride last autumn from Barre) so there's no time to take in the scenery and to take pix of our adventure?

If so, I might need to invest in a GPS so I can dally, then meet up at the daily stop points. This will be my first time up there and I want to experience the ambience

Pete, I can't speak for Tito, but I'd like the pace to be a little more relaxed too for the same reasons you point out. In Vermont it's fun to ride fast because we've all seen the scenery plenty of times, but if I'm riding to someplace I've never been before, I want to see the sights. And I think Tito agrees as well, which is why we've kept the daily mileage reasonable.

Glad to hear you're planning to join us. This is going to be a great trip!

Pete!

I am riding the V-Strom Two up with luggage, so I will keep it under 121mph! LOL

I also plan on taking it easy and enjoying the sites, places to eat, drink, pictures, tour, be a tourist, music, ......

And I am sure every now and again we will get to TON UP a bit.

Not making a firm commitment yet... but I cut my June vacation short by a week and have July 4-14 off now. This means the Bennington Bash will only be one day for me (Saturday probably overnight), before I ride home via Lake George, Syracuse and the Adirondacks. Sounds like a good shakedown trip, doesn't it? Long enough to get used to the bike again after the LONG winter, long enough to break in the new seat and to make sure my camping kit includes everything I need, but not so long the wife gets clingy and I can still do chores when I get back.

Okay, so long story short -- Nova Scotia is looking more likely!

CAPE BRETTON 2008

Pete!

Nova Scotia is going to be the ride of the year for 2008.

There are plenty of weekend long rides that I am going to do and I am hoping that you, Mark, Robin, Paul will join me as well.

I would like to do the entire Blue Ridge Parkway in 2009 and spend an entire day at DEALS GAP, and continue to Alabama to hang out with Robin and Paul for a day or two. Entire trip length about 8 days. We can talk about it later this summer while having a cold Canadian beer.

Tito! Going south was my original plan, but it didn't work out. I had what I considered a wicked good ride picked out down the western slopes of the Aps thru PA, WV and TN. Spend a day at the Gap, then back home along the BRP.

It would make an excellent discussion over cold ale!

Pete, glad to hear it's looking more likely that you'll be able to join us. This is definitely going to be an awesome trip. I can't wait!

I set up my tent in my back yard yesterday to let it air out and see what condition it's in. I think it might be okay if I get a can of that silicone spray sealant and re-waterproof it, but I don't know yet, I may just get a new one.

(Oh, Tito, by the way -- talked to Jason yesterday, he wanted to join us but doesn't think he'll be able to get the time off, so we should count him out.)

Mark, I still have a foot and a half of snow in the yard, so short of setting up the old tent in the living room I'll have to wait a couple more weeks before checking things out.

Any idea what sort of weather we can expect up there in early July? I have a feeling the down mummy bag I used backpacking in the Sierras in the 10,000 foot range would be overkill in Nova Scotia

I use a 40f sleeping bag. It works ok for me. On colder October camping weather I bring a fleece blanket.
