My 16 year old daughter and I went out for our first ride together
out on the road today.
She just got her permit last week. She started riding last year in parking lots.
I put her through some pretty tuff stuff.
By the end of last fall she was handling the bike very well.
I will still have her take the rider course before she gets her license.
She had been riding with me on my bike since she was in dippers.
It is a little scary because you can’t help from worrying about her.
It is some thing she wanted to do I never encouraged her, she decided
she wanted to ride on her own.
And she knows how much I love riding my bike, so there is no way
I could tell her I didn’t won’t her to ride.
All I can do is teach her every thing I know from the 34 years I have
been riding and, send her through the rider course.
But anyway, we had fun she was a little nervous but, probably not as
nervous as I was.

This is the Suzuki GS 250 I picked up for her last year.

I'm hip Bill. My son (23) was going to purchase one last year. He has his learners. Things and money fell through. (sigh) He informed me this year is the real Mckoy.I'm pretty sure he's looking for a cafe - cruiser. Not to excited (me)Matts' a good kid, intelligent , humorous and well rounded. However he's always been very impatient.Wonder where he got that from ?

I have one question Bill - do you make her wear a helmet?

The law says she has to wear a helmet and, whether there was a law or not yes I would make her wear a helmet.
Luckily she wants to wear a full face helmet so I went out and bought her one of the
coolest looking full face helmets I could find.
Me I fucking hate wearing a helmet and I fucking hate even more being told I have to wear a fucking helmet.
I will be there in Boston along with hundreds of other Mass Riders fighting against
the fucking helmet law.
We will be storming the state house on May 15
We have been fighting for many years and this could be the year. It just passed through the
Massachusetts Joint Committee on Transportation and has voted the adult helmet choice bill 'favorably' out of its Committee, recommending it "ought to pass."

We still have a long way to go but this is a good start.
Of course the bill will come with some stipulations One being that you must be over 21 years old.

Bill - could you do me a favor? While you guys are storm trooping the Capitol can you also ask them to ease up on the Fucking gun laws in your State? It would be nice to be able to ride through Mass with my gun and not get in trouble!

Yes that is just another one of the Masshole laws out there.
You do have the NRA fighting for that one.

Make sure she takes the Basic MSF course. Then after a year or 3,000 miles have her take the advanced course. It will show her what her limitations are as well as her bikes.

What a cool (and brave) dad you are

I was at Bettencourt's last week looking at bikes ( I've developed this fascination for trikes.....) and was checking out both the Honda and Suzuki 250s for Emily for next year.

What's the scoop in MA for how old kids can be to ride legally on the street? MC Permit at 16? Can they ride on the street then, or do they need to wait till they get their driver's license at 16 and a half?

At 16 she can walk in and take the test for her permit.
Make sure she reads the book. There are 20 multiple choice questions and you can not get
more then 6 questions wrong.
With her permit she can ride on the road.
There are some stipulations she can't have a passenger, she can't ride at night and
I'm not sure but I believe she can not ride out of state.

At 16 and 1/2 she can go for her license.
At 16 and 1/2 she can take the MSF rider course and if or when she passes the
course they will issue her her license there. She will not have to take the riding test
at the registry.

She will be riding with me for quite a wile before I will let her venture out on her own.
By the time she can take the rider course she will pass it with flying colors.

That is funny because that is one of things that made it easier for me to decide to let
her ride.
I figured I would much rather see her riding her own bike then riding on the back of
some Bozo full of testosterone's bike.

Emily has recently begun her first relationship with a boy.....Two weeks ago I brought her and her boy over to her Dad's house so that he could meet him....there was Em's Dad in the driveway, all bikered up...with Em's Uncle, all bikered up, and Em's older step-brother, all bikered up.....LOL. All three of them, arms crossed, an Indian and 2 HDs parked, as we pulled into the driveway, garage open, tools out. Poor Emily's boy, he was severely outnumbered. (Later I thanked her Dad for making a strong impression.)

Over half my students are female. It's is great to see women on their own bikes. One of my Track Instructors is a woman, and she is the fastest one there. There is a lot of stereotypes out there who still think that a womans place is in the kitchen, Think Again!

I rather see folks riding SOLO regardless of gender. But that would be another subject that we we argue about for hours.

I have a daughter who is very intelligent , beautiful and independent. I got her a dirt bike when she was around 12. She is ready for a Sport Bike now.
