Bringing tools?

Having ridden with HD's and Triumphs back in the late 70's and 80's I've never gotten over bringing more tools with me than is nesessary. Of course back then all one really needed was a hammer to fix most things and if that wasn't enough than a BFH or (Big Fucking Hammer) would do. Now though when riding with the usual suspects we part out the tool list and I bring all the electrical stuff needed to diagnose and fix most problems occuring with the nasty bunch of wires running all over the place. I'm pretty fair with a multimeter so if anyone should have any problems or be in need of connectors or the like I will leave my number with the desk at the Paradise. Just to have good communication I will email the regulars on this site with contact information before then anyway. Now I know Triumph and HD have come a long way since then but better to be prepared and not have to use it then visa versa. Oh yeah, also bringing fix-a-flat and tire repair stuff too. Now that I think about it the wife isn't going so that leaves more room for tools. Like I was saying---you just don't get over it. Goodnight, Touko

The one thing you forgot to tell them is when your rideing with a group with old harleys and triumphs you needed someone with a pickup or van to follow just incase you couldnt find the part that feel off. Modern motorcycles are so wonderful no need for safety wiring every damn nut and bolt and the use of lock tight seems to be less with every year. I dont think I will ever go back.

Jimmy, that's so funny and so totaly correct. Back then there wasn't one time when we went to a Harley Rendevous or Laconia run that we didn't bring a truck and if a bike didn't end up in it on the way up there would always be one on the way back. One time one of the bikes blew a head gasket and was fixed in the back of the truck before we got there. Other times we had coolers full of beer and all you had to do was ride up and the guy in the back would hand you a beer. That was some crazy shit back then.
I'ts a good thing the HD trannies were only a four speed and the limit was 55. or we would never have made it to the run either from crashes or more of the bikes shaking themselves to pieces.LoL

I had a 59 pan head ridged frame with a springer front end built it over the winter even painted it and my brother before I lost him airbrushed skulls all over it coolest bike ever . Anyhow I was riding one day just getting ready to pull into a buddies drive way and the damn sproket bolt backed out hung into the lower frame leg and locked the rear wheel up yep you guessed it flop right on the black top . It would shake so hard the mirrors would snap off at the base and fall off at traffic lights you had to stand up at lights to read people plates 10ft in front of you . I was a harley man till the new crowd took over when it was about riding them and not buying them. Nothing against a clean home built rider but I cant get into the 20k dealeership queens we see on the road now I have been checking the local sale rags looking for a nice used softtail. My Grandfather used to tell me if it didn't have a kick starter it wasn't a Harley it was a bowlingball (AMF)and if you didn't build it it wasn't yours it was something you bought. He was a old Indian man and every harley I have ever put together has his leather indian seat on it now it hangs on the wall of the shop.

I know I am bringing a T-handle allen wrench to remove my seat if necessary, a leatherman multipurpose tool, fix a flat, first aid kit(for me not the bike), flashlight and a few knives. Probably a few other things like screwdrivers and wrenches as well.

I'm in stitches over the mirrors! I've got a 81 Sturgis with the stock raised drag bars; well the mirrors have a long stem which you could never get tight enough not to act like weathervanes showing you the wind direction as if I needed to know. My uncle took a brand new 79 Super Glide out of the shop and when he stopped at the first traffic light the glass popped out and dinked off the tank. Oh man we've got a lot to laugh about.
I went through MMI (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute) out in Arizona back in 85 as I needed to get away for a while and try to make something of my life. Never used any of the training as a carreer but have been able to do my own work on my bikes and help others from time to time. Never had a Panhead but if I were to do a custom that's the engine I would use. It had the best look + with all the aftermarket parts there's a good chance of achieving much better balancing which of course was one of HD's nemesis during those years. Though the mirrors will likely always be useless no matter what.

Are the fuses for the dynamite? I'm glad Lovel is bringing a first aid kit but to be on the safe side we should probably keep Drlapo away from the combustables. One flick of a stogee and the Bash becomes the Boom!

Ok, I found my cigar cutter so I'm bringing that too......hmm, perhaps alka seltzer should be considered a tool on this trip. Might be needed to fix some heads on Sun. morning.
