Finally lost my mind....

Postby bruce19 » Thu May 15, 2008 8:40 am

After 30 yrs. of owning only one bike at a time, I bought my Sprint RS in '04. Along with my '96 Ducati SS, it was the first time I ever had two bikes. Then there was the deal on a 998 I couldn't pass up. Well, at least I had the good sense to sell the SS. But, then I had two bikes. Now a friend of mine, who runs several Yamaha/Suzuki dealerships called me and said, "Hey, I'm taking a 998S Bayliss in trade. Interested?" Being the cautious guy I am and knowing that I had absolutely no money, I said, "Sure!" So, after thoroughly checking it out, I'm set to pick it up next week. To be followed shortly by the not so slowly sinking of my financial ship, so to speak. Of course this makes the sale of my beautiful red 998 with the white mono tail a no brainer. Then I go out to the garage for a ride on my Duc. I roll it out into the sun and find myself staring into it's deep red paint, thinking, "God, this could be the most beautiful bike ever." Throw a leg over it and fire it up. Music....pure mechanical music. Out onto the road and click through the gears. Lean it into a couple bends on Cook Hill Rd. Am I crazy? Sell this bike? NEVER! OK, maybe I'll buy the Bayliss and keep this one too........just for a little while until I can figure out what to do. Back into the driveway and off the bike. My cell phone rings. It's my son. "Hey I just saw you rippin' through Willimantic." "Must have been someone else. I'm a pretty conservative rider." (Chuckles in the background). "Right. Ducai 998, red with white mono tail. Guy on it wearing a Suomy Dragon helmet. I don't think so. Grow up, old man." Conversation ends to laughter. Hey, I'll be drawing Social Security in August! Maybe I can keep all three bikes. Somewhere in my head a voice is screaming, "Grow up old man!" But, there's another voice saying, "Sorry can't hear you. I've got my ear plugs in and I'm going riding."

Congratulations on loosing your mind. Just keep the plugs in or someone will try to tell you where it is. Whenever I'm asked why I have two bikes my response is "I can't afford Three". Younger next year, Touko

I read the book.
We live for this.

Great book. BTW, I blame this all on the Triumph. Without it, I would never have known how cool it is to have different bikes for different purposes. Love my Triumph. Best all around bike I've ever owned. Now, if I had a Speed Triple..........

I know the feeling; we are down to 14 bikes now that Dan totalled his 675
do you want to buy a few?
