I'm in northwest Ohio and thinking about it. Google says Bennington is 678 miles from me. My old butt might be able to do that on the Harley but I'm not sure about the Bonnie. I sure would like to meet some of you Rats, though. Time will tell....

Indiana to vermont

Postby Speedblastr » Thu Jan 03, 2008 9:39 pm

I might do like a lot of other bro's do at sturgis. Put my bike in the back of the truck, strap it down.I have the 6ft bed ,extended cab-silverado,I'll have to leave the tailgate open but I hauled it 250 miles like that and as long as you strap it down (handlebars&Rear tire) [ 3 ratchet straps in all ] correctly it won't scratch or move an inch. Just a thought as my wife will be with me and I can see bathroom calls coming like there is no tomorrow as she is already complaining about her ass going numb, and in case if inclement weather we can still make our destination on time. Something to think about. Ramp it on, Ramp it off. SPEED.

I just posted that earlier I am bring my 66 and my 07 . Becuase we are going to pull out of Delaware at like 3 in the morning I am going to throw both the the truck and unload which ever one I want to ride into Bennington when I meet up for the last 150 miles. Besides with the truck I can carry alot more comforts from home and not worry about loading my bike down with bagage.

I've trailered shorter distances with Matt... We went out to the finger lakes. I took the ferry and rode up to his place in CT, loaded up, and tossed our stuff in his van. They all picked on us when we got there, and were on their knees begging when the rain hit on the last day :D
02 BA, lots of goodies...
I may live in NY, but I grew up in VT! I'm a local for this one...

Good Ride!

Postby TonUp » Fri Jan 04, 2008 11:50 pm

600-700 miles is a good day ride. It should take you 13-14 hours. You can rest when you die! Ride in 150-200 mile increments in the morning. Take longer brakes in the afternoon and stay hydrated.

We will be waiting for you in Bennington!

JEnfield, my point exactly.I'm no trailer Queen but as the above mentioned as you said "can take more amenities from home." The wife is a little nervous about it,heck, as we were in discussion mode about a vacation she was thinking 'Beach' while I was thinking motorcycle,in this instance this was a way of meeting her halfway in the topic and talking her in to going. Also,I'd like not to have an extreme case of the "burnouts" and be able to enjoy the rallies and rides without having the 'Hypnotic whitestripe fever'.

Postby TonUp » Sun Jan 06, 2008 9:15 am

I forgot about the wife part, sorry!

If she is happy you will have a better ride. I do ride two up quite often and I am familiar with the drill. LOL

Sounds like a good plan! We will have some great rides for you when you arrive.

You guys do what ever you think is best for the comfort and safety of everyone involved. For those bringing a passenger it now becomes more of what their needs are than yours are now. If it wasn't such a short ride for me I would be thinking about getting the 2nd spot on UncleCharlie's trailer but since I know that my wife can endure 150 miles if I go slow and stop as she pleases I will have no problems whatsoever. That is why I am allowing 4 hours to do 150 miles. If my mind is set on this time frame, than it will be enjoyable for all. If we arrive earlier than that then it is just a bonus! I'm sure hoping that when we stop for food at Toymakers that we can get UncleCharlie to get us the full tour of the famous stable up there! What a photo opt that will be!

What ever you think Hedge doesn't matter to me and the wife doesn't mind slow either. In fact taking your time and enjoying the ride is what we are looking forward to. Touring the stable sounds like one cool stop for this trip.
